We have been discussing the epic struggle between human beings
and computers in the realm of chess. In "Modern Chess Analysis"
(Gambit), Robin Smith, a correspondence grandmaster, compares
computer analysis to human analysis.
One casualty to the computers would seem to be correspondence
chess, as any chess illiterate can simply send in computer moves in
a correspondence game. However, correspondence chess has not
expired. Nearly all national correspondence programs forbid the use
of computers in correspondence play, though the difficulties of
enforcing the rule are no doubt mountainous. However, the
International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) does not forbid
the use of computers. ...
