Article: Officials: El Monte transit project in spotlight, but still viable

EL MONTE - State and local elected leaders have for years championed a $1.2 billion Titan Group development that would bring homes and retail shops around the city's bus terminal.

And many of them also have received money from the developer's CEO John Leung, who has since resigned his post. The resignation came after El Monte police announced one week ago that Leung and business partner Jean Lang were under investigation in a fraud and embezzlement case.

Since it was proposed in 2003, state and local officials have lobbied hard to make the project happen.
