The Boy Scouts of America will buy a 10,600-acre site in Fayette
County where the organization plans to build a "high-adventure base"
beside the New River Gorge National River park, scout leaders said
Monday.
The Boy Scouts have filed a request to rezone the Garden Ground
Mountain area - a former strip-mining site - with the Fayette County
Commission, which is expected to approve the change.
The adventure camp - between Glen Jean, Prince and Mount Hope -
is expected to attract thousands of scouts from across the country
each year.
The multimillion-dollar project could bring as many as 80 full-
time jobs and 1,000 seasonal workers to the area.
