A program to bring people with real world experience into West
Virginia's classrooms has had a surge in applications.
So far this year, about 250 people have applied to become part of
the state's Transition to Teaching Project.
The federally funded program sets people switching careers to
work teaching in counties that have a critical shortage of teachers
of math, science, English, foreign language, and special education
in grades six through 12.
The program makes it simpler for college graduates with
applicable experience outside of the classroom to teach.
