Article: Tschantz Cabin getting 'green' roof

KIDRON -- A new roofing product -- apparently never previously used in Ohio -- is drawing a lot of attention in its first application at Sonnenberg Village.

The product, called Eco-Shakes, may be brown like a real wooden shake shingle, but Ray Leisy, project manager for Sonnenberg Village, said it's as green as it gets. The rubberlike shingle, which has the feel and flexibility of a car mat, is made from recycled plastic, rubber and other compounds, and then molded with the texture and dimension of a real wood shingle.

The Eco-Shake is being used to roof the Tschantz Cabin. The cabin is the first building in the planned historical village.
