Young job hunters are often the first to feel the impact of a
recession, reports Nikki Preston .

Making cups of tea three times a day wasn't exactly what 18-year-
old Aaron Millar thought he would be doing when he decided to pursue
a career in mechanical engineering.
But Aaron doesn't mind in the least - he's just relieved he is
not one of the growing number of people joining the dole queue,
before he had even launched a career.
Of Waikato's unemployed, 35.3 per cent are aged between 18 and
24, raising the concern that they could be at risk of becoming long-
term beneficiaries. Waikato is above the national average of 31 per
cent, prompting government organisations ...
