Article: Selecting Athletes of the Year is never an easy process

This is a column I started thinking about shortly after the New Year -- not so much what to write, but what the final decision announced tonight at Amarante's Sea Cliff entails. It may seem easy enough to pick the Register's Male and Female Athletes of the Year. But in truth, it never is. Is it the athlete who dominates in one sport, setting national records, or is it the person who excels in two or three sports? There is no wrong answer. Our high school staff had plenty of discussions about it, believe me.

The 25 student-athletes we are honoring this evening have all been named the best in their particular sport. All would be worthy choices, but only two can be so honored.
