REDLANDS - The city recently opened a Twitter account, hoping to
use the social-networking program to give residents instant updates
and city news - in 140 characters or less.
"Twitter is just another communication vehicle," said city
spokesman Carl Baker. "It's a way to reach people who maybe aren't
reading the newspaper.
"It's a way for us to get immediate alerts out."
The city has used Web-based alert systems like
Citizenobserver.com for years, Baker said. The city's use of Twitter
will be one of the tools the city uses to get information out.
Baker has posted links on Twitter that lead to press releases and
other news posted on the city's Web site. The city has also used
