One of the very active Girl Scout troops in Central County -- Cadette Troop 31693 of Walnut Creek -- has achieved another milestone. Six girls earned Girl Scouting's Silver Award, which was acknowledged June 1 at a ceremony at Las Lomas High School. Each of the girls spoke about the troop's Silver Award project.

"For three days in May, Troop 31693 hosted the annual Girl Scout Camporee," said parent Cheryl Breen, troop registrar.

"The event took up two camp sites at the Briones Regional Park outside Lafayette."

Planning for the event began last fall with two meetings each month. Approximately 65 local Junior Girl Scouts attended "Around the World in Three Days."
