Brazil's stock up 37 percent in first half of year

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Sao Paulo stock exchange (Bovespa) was down 1.59 percent on Tuesday, closing at 51,465 points and leading to an accumulated fall of 3.25 percent in June, the first since February.

In the first half of the year, however, the Ibovespa index accumulated a rise of 37.05 percent from the 37,550 points registered by the end of 2008. Due to the crisis effects in the second half of 2008, the Ibovespa index suffered a 20.84 percent fall in the past 12 months.
