For more than 40 years, Johnny's Fruit Market near Crooked Creek
State Park in Armstrong County was known for its quality produce and
nursery.
Owner John Alvino, who learned the business as a youngster in
Freeport, was respected for his kind demeanor and his care in
satisfying his customers.
John J. Alvino of Vandergrift, formerly of Bethel Township,
Armstrong County, died on Sunday, June 28, 2009, in Westchester
Medical Center, New York. He was 84.
Carol Surovick of Erie said her father worked after school and on
weekends in a grocery store in Freeport waiting on customers and
making home deliveries.
