Article: Memento created from wood salvaged at closing school

OLD school desks and chairs have been crafted into a memento to mark a school's [pounds]16.4m relocation later this year.

Staff and students at Eastbourne Church of England Academy, when they relocate, will take with them a cross made from timbers once used in furniture at the school, which is in The Fairway.

The school will move to an adjoining site in September.

To commemorate the occasion, the school's design and technology department created the cross from wood salvaged from discarded school benches, desks and chairs, items which would have ended up in a skip.
