I am one of the few Devon County Council members who did not back
the county unitary bid, and was one of the three out of 40 city
council members who did not back the Exeter and Exmouth bid in
favour of enhanced two-tier working.
It was clear from the start that a stand-alone Exeter authority
on the existing city boundaries was far too small, that the county
bid left unanswered questions about governance, and that the Exeter
and Exmouth bid is unacceptable as the town and surrounding parishes
do not want a shotgun wedding with the city.
The incredible news, Echo, July 3, that the Government has yet
again unbelievably delayed a decision for Devon is really the final
straw. If they can ...
