Thirty-five years ago a film on general release in Britain was causing great controversy. The Exorcist was hugely popular. Sadly some people found that, having seen the film, they were disturbed, distressed and many sought help from others.

In anticipation of this when it was known that the film was coming to Plymouth one person decided to take positive action. Gordon Wright collected together like-minded friends and, as people left the cinema, they handed out cards which simply invited those who needed to talk to someone, having seen the film, to phone a number where a trained volunteer would be available to listen to them and help by simply being there.
