Article: Arrowhead Regional starts new patient care program

COLTON - This month, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center kicked off a new program dubbed Transitional Life Choices.

The palliative care program provides medical treatment to individuals with serious, life-threatening or terminal ailments that also focuses on improving a patient's quality of life.

"The main focus of the program is to manage the symptoms of people with major diseases," said Kim Fugate, the county hospital's chief nursing officer.

Unlike hospice care, which doesn't provide curative treatment, palliative care uses treatment that aims to ease symptoms to make a patient more comfortable as well as cure the disease, Fugate said.
