Article: A CHANGE OF PLANS ; Life takes a minor detour for Drew Dominguez of Braintree

LOWELL

Under normal circumstances, getting a phone call that cancels a post-college trek throughout Europe would be a major letdown for a 22-year-old.

But when Braintree's Drew Dominguez received such a call a few weeks ago, he immediately canceled his plane ticket to Belgium, opting instead for a different type of a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.

Dominguez, a 2005 graduate of Braintree High School and standout athlete at Wesleyan University, was signed on June 11 as an undrafted free agent by the Red Sox. He is currently assigned to the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League, the Sox' class-A affiliate.
