New York City tourists decline this summer

NEW YORK, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The number of tourists to New York City, one of the most popular tourist places in the world, is decreasing this summer, local media reported Monday.

City tourism officials once projected some 11.3 million tourists will come to New York this summer, a drop of 6 percent for the same period last year. There were 12 million people visiting New York City last summer.

Industry officials tried to use the long Independence Day holiday weekend to reverse the momentum. The holiday attracted many visitors by highlight events such as the annual Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Show and the reopening of Statue of Liberty's crown.
