Brazil's grain crop to fall 8.7 percent in 2009

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's grain crop will total 133.3 million metric tons in 2009, down 8.7 percent from the 146 million metric tons registered last year.

According to a study released Tuesday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the projection is lower than the previous one. The IBGE attributed the figures to losses in the corn crop and to a reduction in the estimates for the rice, beans and soybeans crops.
