Article: Head of auto dealer group praises McGraw: ; Attorney general has helped reclaim state car dealership franchise laws

The president of the West Virginia Automobile & Truck Dealers Association is crediting state Attorney General Darrell McGraw and the attorneys general of 42 other states with salvaging state car dealership franchise laws.

Last month, Chrysler wiped out 789 dealers, including 17 in West Virginia, while in bankruptcy. General Motors Corp., which is currently in bankruptcy, is pushing to eliminate 2,400 dealerships, including an undisclosed number in West Virginia, by 2010. Ruth Lemmon of the auto and truck dealers' trade association said those decisions won't change. She said bankruptcy allows companies to do extraordinary things.
