EAST Yorkshire's caravan industry is showing signs of recovery.

Having shed about 1,500 jobs over the past 12 months, local manufacturers are now reporting an upturn in business.

Ironically, the recession has played a part in the boost, as more people opt for cheap caravan holidays in Britain.

Earlier this year, the Caravan Club announced a 40 per cent rise in bookings on its holiday sites.

When combined with the recent heatwave, sales of static and touring caravans are once again on the rise.

Paul Bell, head of economic development at East Riding Council, says 250 jobs have been created in the region over the past three months.
