A CHINA clay company has been fined after polluting the River Fal
three times in six months.
Imerys Minerals Ltd was ordered to pay Pounds 7,162 in fines and
costs by Bodmin magistrates after admitting polluting the river with
liquid clay.
The company is responsible for an extensive network of pipelines
across Cornwall as part of its mining operations which are used to
transfer china clay prior to treatment.
Philip Christie, for the Environment Agency which brought the
case against Imerys, said: "While the agency accepts these spilages
were not inten-tionalImerys Minerals has a history of similar
accidents."
On July 29 last year, Imerys told the agency it had a burst pipe
at its Melbur china ...
