Article: Champion horse enjoys competition

Ears forward, head held high, tail arched, Ring O Fyre exudes confidence and pride.

He's done his owner, Tom Vessey of Redlands, and his trainer, Bob Wise, proud on many occasions since Vessey purchased the horse about three years ago.

In September he won the title of National Sport Horse for 2008 in competition in Nampa, Idaho.

"He's getting a lot of attention," Vessey said.

Ring O Fyre, or Ringo as he is usually called, is half saddlebred and half Arabian. Vessey found him in Yucaipa. The horse is about 9 years old.

Vessey said the husband of his colleague, Sally Flanders, who is a farrier, knew Vessey was looking for a horse and told her to tell Vessey about Ringo.
