Article: New taxes mean Irish pay less to fly to Glasgow than Capital

Price difference could see visitors opt for cheaper destination

AIRPORT bosses and tourism chiefs today hit out at travel taxes which mean Irish travellers flying into the Capital now have to pay more than their Glasgow-bound counterparts.

Industry experts believe the air travel tax, introduced by the Irish Government at the start of the financial year, could influence whether visitors choose to fly to the Capital, or instead opt for a cheaper flight to Glasgow.

The tax is based on whether a destination is within 300km of Dublin, so passengers heading for Edinburgh, which is further, must pay a 10 tax, yet those bound for Glasgow, which is within the distance, only Euros 2.
