Local Catholic business and religious leaders say it's hard to quibble with the underlying principles of Pope Benedict XVI's latest encyclical, that human dignity and personal ethics must inform economic decisions.

But few expect the document, which echoes many of the church's longstanding positions on social justice issues, to profoundly affect the way business is conducted in the United States or the world. The encyclical, Benedict's third such document, was issued Tuesday.

"I don't think it's going to undermine capitalism or overturn the stock market," said Auxiliary Bishop William P. Callahan, acting administrator of the Milwaukee Archdiocese until Benedict names a new archbishop.
