Planting fruit trees has never been more fashionable, says New Zealand Gardener magazine editor Lynda Hallinan.

New Zealand's biggest wholesale fruit tree nursery, Nelson-based Waimea Nurseries, supplies garden centres all over the country and has seen demand more than double in the past two years.

Last winter, Waimea Nurseries sold every plum, peach, nectarine and apricot tree it had grown for sale, with many dwarf varieties selling out within a week of going on sale at garden centres.

So, with the popularity of planting fruit trees, NZ Gardener has released its fourth special collector's edition in the Homegrown series - Homegrown Fruit Trees.
