Local audiences know Celena Shafer as an opera singer, mainly
through her performances with Utah Opera.
She's appeared in many of its productions over the years, most
recently as Norina in Gaetano Donizetti's "Don Pasquale."
And throughout her career, Shafer has also recorded a number of
operas, including Laurent Petitgirard's "Joseph Merrick, the
Elephant Man," with the University of Utah's Robert Breault, and
Richard Strauss' "Die Aegyptische Helena," with Deborah Voigt.
This week, however, as part of the Utah Symphony's Deer Valley
Music Festival, concertgoers will get to see a different side of
Shafer.
She'll be doing her first local recital in four years,
