Article: Cross Lanes student hits perfect ACT mark

David Webb, 18, of Cross Lanes, wanted nothing to do with taking the ACT.

If it was up to him, he would have canceled his scheduled test after doing exceptionally well on the SAT, the other college aptitude test.

But his parents urged him to take the test and avoid forfeiting a cancellation fee. So he went. No pressure.

Weeks later, it turned out he scored a perfect 36 on the test, which gauges English, mathematics, reading and science aptitude.

"I really didn't put any time into it, to tell you the truth," he said. "I looked over some things for a few minutes the night before. I worked harder at the SATs."

All the work, or lack thereof, paid off after David was one of two West Virginians ...
