Article: U.S. BANK CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES Rough finish for Lickliter Leader ends up slipping

Frank Lickliter II walked out of the scorer's trailer Sunday after the final round of the U.S. Bank Championship, went to his golf bag, pulled out a cigarette and started puffing away.

Considering everything that happened to him at Brown Deer Park, he needed the release.

One day after firing a 7-under-par 63 to take a one-stroke lead into the final round, he sputtered to a 3-over 73 to drop into a tie with five other golfers for 18th. It was his second-best finish of the year but nonetheless a bitter pill to swallow for a player in search of his first PGA Tour victory since 2003.

He finished five strokes behind Bo Van Pelt and John Mallinger, who played a two-hole playoff won by Van Pelt.
