Article: Torrance import-export firm brings Japanese scarves to US market

When Masahiko Takami immigrated to the United States from Japan in 1993, his American dream was to start his own business.

Takami made that dream a reality in 2000 when he started ICDI Inc., an import and export company, with his business partner Patrick Nguyen.

Nguyen and Takami quit the import-export company where they had worked to start ICDI.

"We thought we might be able to get better compensated if we were on our own," said Nguyen, 39, of Torrance. "And we thought we could do better. With the things we learned, we thought we could build from that."

ICDI, which stands for "I Can Do It," is also their business philosophy.
