1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares climb to 13-month high

BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares gained 2.42 percent Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index climbing above 3,200 points, a 13-month high, as coal, oil, and nonferrous metal stocks advanced on expectations of economic recovery.

The index closed at 3,266.92 points, up 77.18 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 13,381.22 points, up 249.24 points, or 1.9 percent.

Total turnover rose to 350.57 billion yuan (51.33 billion U.S. dollars) from 283.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 710 to 137 in Shanghai and 634 to 97 in Shenzhen.
