Third-grader wins

military essay award

Rebekah O'Bryan, a third-grader from Owensboro, was awarded first place in the third- and fourth-grade category of the Armed Services YMCA Annual Essay and Art Contest at a Capitol Hill luncheon on May 13 in Washington.

As part of her reward, O'Bryan received a $500 savings bond for her essay.

The essay will be displayed in the U.S. Senate's historical Russell Rotunda until Thursday, along with 25 other winning essays in an exhibit sponsored by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.
