This week, First Course answers questions from readers, about
specialty sandwich buns, egg size, farmers markets and frozen
rhubarb.
Pretzel (bun) logic
In my column last week, I included mention of a specialty
cheeseburger that calls for a pretzel bun. A reader called to ask
where she could find the buns.
I found them at the Sendik's in Elm Grove. They're made by Miller
Bakery, and it turns out they're sold in all Sendik's stores, as
well as at Usinger's and a few Sentry stores.
Miller has been making them for about two years, according to
owner Brian Miller. They look distinctive, with a very dark brown
sheen on top. What gives them that look -- and a subtle pretzel
