MANUFACTURING jobs in Hull have been safeguarded after a city firm bought out one of its rivals.

Shower and bathroom business Ideal Standard International in National Avenue, west Hull, has acquired the subsidiary companies of Irish firm Qualceram Shires Plc.

The purchase, believed to be for 3.4m euros (about Pounds 2.9m), includes companies Shires Ireland Ltd, Quay Bathrooms Ltd, Quality Ceramics (Arklow) Ltd and Quality Ceramics (Sales) Ltd.

The four companies produce showers, baths, bathroom furniture and accessories, predominantly for the Irish market.
