Hingham bank's earnings up 43%

HINGHAM - Hingham Institution for Savings announced that its second-quarter earnings rose 43 percent to $2 million.

Deposits increased 25.3 percent from the previous year to $585.9 million. Loans increased 10.6 percent to $692.3 million.

President Robert Gaughen Jr. said the company set aside $450,000 for loan losses during the quarter as a precaution although it has not experienced any net loan losses this year.
