The Army Corps of Engineers today said the Mississippi River Gulf
Outlet, blamed for flooding in Hurricane Katrina, is officially
closed.
It took six months and $11.2 million to close the channel using
352,086 tons of stone, the Corps said. Construction of the closure
structure wrapped up July 9.
