Article: Army Corps of Engineers: Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) closure complete

The Army Corps of Engineers today said the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, blamed for flooding in Hurricane Katrina, is officially closed.

It took six months and $11.2 million to close the channel using 352,086 tons of stone, the Corps said. Construction of the closure structure wrapped up July 9.
