SHOP managers have hit out at Anglian Water after a day of lost takings and stock damage.

Firefighters were called to Lincoln's St Benedicts Square at 11am yesterday after a water main burst outside women's fashion store Ann Harvey.

Sandbags were provided to shop staff to prevent the water flowing on to their premises, diverting some of the deluge into the High Street, where it flowed into the drains.

Top Man, BHS and Ann Harvey had to close their doors, while one or two customers waded across the water to reach The Cornish Pasty Ltd and jewellery store Maya.

At The Tanning Shop there was a rush to make sure the sunbeds were switched off and the electricity supply disconnected.
