SAN RAMON -- The human population isn't the only one that has
spiked in the Dougherty Valley.
A certain rodent population is on the rise as well.
Daisy Ozim said in the past three months she has been seeing
large rats in her Windemere neighborhood on the east side of town
and dozens more darting in the bushes on the opposite side of San
Ramon in Central Park.
"They're big, a good size like squirrels," she said.
Ozim said she's thinking of toting an Airsoft pistol with her at
the park to keep them at bay.
But according to the Contra Costa County Mosquito and Vector
Control District, it's not the rat population that is booming --
it's the vole count that is rising fast.
