PALESTINIAN STATE: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has
endorsed for the first time the creation of a Palestinian state,
provided it is demilitarized. The White House called his speech "an
important step forward." In a speech at Bar-Ilan University, June
14, Netanyahu also said that the Palestinians must recognize the
Jewish character of Israel, a condition Palestinian Authority
President Mahmud Abbas has long rejected.
