DAYTON -- Ten years down the line, the Bob Ross Classic still
aims to give incoming high school seniors a chance to shine in front
of college and big-league scouts on a professional diamond.
Standouts from Miami Valley high schools -- as far north as
Bellefontaine and as far south as Edgewood -- have divided into two
teams and will play ball tonight, July 25, at Fifth Third Field.
Butch Spencer, general manager of Bob Ross Buick Inc.,
spearheaded the event a decade ago and remains involved in planning.
"I think we had 15 high schools involved the first year with a
couple players from each school," he said. "Since then, it's evolved
into (as many as) 50 high schools.
