Article: Grand Rapids seeks a star

Saying they weren't getting the "superstar" candidate they wanted, Grand Rapids, Mich., city commissioners in April suggested firing the search firm they had hired to help them find a city manager.

But the commission gave the firm a second chance. And one new name has since been added to the list of finalists -- that of Topeka city manager Norton Bonaparte.

Bonaparte and the three other top contenders will be interviewed Tuesday in Grand Rapids, a city of about 193,000 people that is trying to fill the manager's job vacated when Kurt Kimball retired effective Jan. 5 after almost 22 years.
