Article: Stimulus to pay for police officers $11 million awarded to Milwaukee and Racine

More than $11 million in federal stimulus grants will hit Milwaukee and Racine to pay for police officers, the Obama administration announced Tuesday.

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said the funding will give the department the opportunity to offset the effects of attrition.

"A generation of officers is retiring right now," Flynn said. "The city certainly has some significant fiscal challenges ahead of it. The opportunity to get 50 officers at no cost to the city is a remarkable one indeed and comes at an important moment."
