BELLFLOWER - Eras come and eras go.

In the tiny southeastern McLean County town of Bellflower (pop. 400-ish), one is about to go. And it's going in a way that will hurt.

In fact, it's been hurting since the afternoon of July 2, when the big man with the even bigger heart left his beloved Central Illinois stage for a command performance elsewhere.

"People are saying, What are we going to do on Saturday nights now?'"

That refrain has been heard from longtime patrons of the McLean County Country Opry, which has filled Bellflower's Community Center with the sound of down-home music for a dozen-odd years.
