Article: Seed funding puts Altadena Library renovation on track

ALTADENA - Boosted by $400,000 in start-up money from federal stimulus funds, fund-raising for Altadena Library's $20 million to $24 million expansion will begin in earnest next month.

Forming the nonprofit Altadena Library Foundation in August will be the first step toward raising $1 million in "seed money" to start the project, said Dale LaCasella, president of the library's board of trustees.

"This is not a bake-sale-and-art-show project, and we know that," LaCasella said. "We got the $400,000, our first big infusion, and we're really excited about it. We'll probably hire a (professional) fund-raiser to help us, but it's going to be self-raised, whatever grants, etc., we get."
