Selling English literacy material to Britain in the midst of the worst recession since the 1930s must win the sheer- audacity award, but this is exactly what Nelson business Rainbow Reading has done.

Owners David and Meryl-Lynn Pluck recently spent two weeks touring Britain, presenting to groups of teachers. In Cardiff alone they sold 140 sets. Each set contains 20 books and accompanying CDs, and retails for $469.

Every page on their books relates to an equivalent track on a CD which is equipped with an MP3 option.

"I like the kids to have the latest, coolest thing," Mrs Pluck said.
