Article: San Dimas' Wednesday Afternoon Club is 107 and still going strong

It's been 107 years of Wednesday afternoon meetings in San Dimas.

And what started on a spring afternoon in May 1902 as a way for some of the city's women to gather, sew and do handiwork, has evolved throughout the years to include community service.

The women first met at "Pinecroft," the home of Mrs. Charles Cannon, at a time when homes apparently didn't need addresses and women were not referred to by their first names. The original eight members of the group met for lunch and socializing.

In 1910 the formal organization was established, necessitating bylaws and dues collections.

During the years, the women have met, talked, weaved baskets and became active with the American Red Cross ...
