Article: Five area post offices, including two in Whittier and two in La Puente, eyed for closure

Five area post offices have been eyed for possible closure or consolidation as part of an effort by the U.S. Postal Service to save money as fewer people send "snail mail."

Two post offices in La Puente, two in Whittier and one in Pomona were among 677 offices across the nation identified for possible study, according to a list presented to Congress this week.

"It's definitely going to have a major impact on the public," said Leonard F. Trujillo, a national business agent based in Pasadena for the American Postal Workers Union.

In its review, the Postal Service will analyze the offices' mail volume, customer access and other data.
