"The market for Chinese antiques, especially jade, is red hot.
Prices are still sky-high even in this economy, and I see no signs
of them slowing down," says James Callahan, Skinner's Asian art
specialist.
The boom proved a bonanza for the woman who brought four pieces
of jade and celadon to the June 27 taping of "Antiques Roadshow" in
Raleigh, N.C.
In appraising the pieces, Callahan identified them as being from
the Chien Lung Dynasty (1736-95) and estimated their worth
conservatively at $1.07 million. This is the highest value given to
any item appraised at an "Antiques Roadshow" taping in its 13-year
history.
