Article: Cruising the lake ; Glimpse water, nature and ritzy dwellings

In search of sunshine and mountain views, we headed to Lake Sunapee this week for an afternoon cruise. Young and old alike gathered by Sunapee Harbor before the 2 p.m. trip, and most headed directly for the top deck once the captain welcomed them aboard.

"You all got your toothbrushes? This is the three-day cruise," Al Peterson said to laughs and a few confused-looking kids.

With his white captain's hat and anchor-buckle belt, Peterson, a retired music teacher, had the part down. He narrated the 1 1/2 hour ride, sharing stories about the lake's history, surroundings and residents. And he waved and rang the boat's bell to introduce visitors to residents of the "friendly lake" who were tanning ...
