Article: A transparency quite opaque

I was staring out of the kitchen window yesterday, as you do when you're washing the dishes, and I saw a yacht come out from Waitapu wharf and, chugging slowly, head down the old dredged channel. The sky was cloudless, the sea calm . . . no, I'm not going to rhapsodise about those; the thing that impressed me was what an amazing, almost magical invention window glass is. You can't see it but it keeps draughts and rain out while letting the view in. I can't help but admire the stuff.

Mind you, a different perspective presents itself to those small creatures like houseflies, bumble bees and the occasional bird. Imagine that you're a bumble bee and you've come into our sunroom on some whim. ...
