West Allis -- The city is bracing for the 158th edition of the Wisconsin State Fair, which will kick off today for the 117th time in West Allis and run until Aug. 16.

The opening ceremonies, scheduled to be held at 10 a.m., will feature Gov. Jim Doyle, State Fair Board Chairwoman Susan Crane and a performance by Kids from Wisconsin.

Opening Day is also Hunger Task Force $2 Day, when fairgoers who bring two nonperishable food items between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. receive $2 admission.

Time and money

The fair is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. On closing day, the fair is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
